Blue Mountain - Latvian Sacral place

Sacral Stone

This is the best known of the Blue Hills in Latvia, surrounded by the atmosphere of ancient times and magic. Although there is no actual and incontestable evidence to the assumption that it used to be a holy site of ancient Latvians, a number of tales and legends, as well as the concentration of cultural and historical objects in vicinity of the hill speak of the significant role of Blue Hill. Poet Andrejs Pumpurs in his epos “Lāčplēsis” (The Bear Slayer) mentions the hill as a place for gathering of all people. The name of the popular healer Zilākalna Marta is also associated with the hill. There is a viewing platform on top of the hill which offers a gorgeous view of the Vidzeme Uplands with the blue lakes and towns. In clear weather, visibility may reach up to 50 kilometres.
Blue Hill should definitely be visited by legend hunters, history enthusiasts and admirers of beautiful views.
